Guidelines for UI Text

Beginning in 2021, Qualio expanded their design team to build the next generation of their eQMS for the life sciences industry. The team brought me in to assess and improve the quality of language in the user interface.

Qualio’s eQMS is an Enterprise Quality Management Software system that centralizes, standardizes, and streamlines quality management data for companies in the life sciences.

UI content audit

I began the project by auditing the current UI copy for consistency, readability and tone, and derived a series of recommendations for UI terms to align as they prepared the next version of their SaaS product.

UI copy process

I advised designers on more efficient ways of managing UI copy in their Figma designs, and coached development teams on internationalization approaches and best practices for storing UI text in code.

Product language framework

Working closely with the team that built the design system, I developed a product language framework with UI copy patterns for use in the core component library.

The framework included guidance on describing product changes, along with content models for knowledge base articles and related product content.
